Arrival of Rohingya Refugees
United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) Indonesia official, Munawaratul Makhya, explained that in November 2023, 6 Rohingya refugee boats would land in Aceh. The details are three ships in the Pidie Regency area, one in Bireuen and one in East Aceh, and the last in Sabang City. The total has now reached more than 1,000 people.
The wave that brought hundreds of Rohingya refugees landed on a number of beaches in Aceh Province caused many problems, resulting in rejection by Acehnese residents in several places. Initially rejected by residents of Bireuen, then North Aceh, and most recently by residents of Sabang City who rejected as many as 219 Rohingya Refugees. Now they have been evacuated to the former Lhokseumawe Immigration Office on Wednesday (22/11/2023)
They were evacuated from Balohan Sabang Harbor using KMP BRR to Ulee Lheue Harbor, Banda Aceh, and continued by land with a travel time of 6 hours to their destination location.
