Blessing After Grief
Ade Roni (47), a disabled cook who has devoted herself for 15 years at a pesantren located in Cileungsi sub-district, Bogor. Ade Roni, who is often called Mang Ade, spends his time in the pesantren's kitchen every day cooking the daily meals for the students.
Before becoming a cook, Mang Ade, once tried his luck as a worker at a traditional market in Kuningan, West Java. A traffic accident in 2003 took both of his legs. But the sad incident turned out to be a blessing for him. He came to the boarding school where his older sister used to work, and until now he is working with his sister at the pesantren.
Mang Ade, who initially couldn't cook, learned a lot from his sister, he decided to work at this pesantren after feeling that his life was better and calmer than before. While in the kitchen he relied on small chairs to walk and cook. In a day, Mang Ade usually cooks for approximately 600 students.
His flaws don't hinder his work, he's also a very easy-going person. So the students were also very fond of joking and chatting with Mang Ade. Now he is calmer and happier because he feels he can be useful to others, and he believes that his service to the students who are studying at the pesantren will not be in vain.
